   Following in his father's footsteps Steve learned to play the guitar at an early age.   He played in a rock & roll band in high school and in a country band while in the US Navy. After his military service ended he played in his father's old tyme  country band until joining "Lake Effect Bluegrass" in winter of  2003. Steve plays lead & rhythm guitar and sings lead & harmony vocals along with the emcee work. Steve, his wife Linda & their children live in the Caughdenoy area

                                    

                       

Neil Shortslef                                      

Neil learned to play the electric guitar and started performing in 1954 with Andy Pawlenko & The Smokey Hollow Boys" playing country music. 52 years later they are still performing together but have switched to bluegrass music where Neil now plays the mandolin and sings tenor. Neil joined "Lake Effect Bluegrass" when it was formed in the fall of 2002. Neil plays Mandolin and gives Lake Effect Bluegrass that high lonesome sound with his crisp tenor vocals and harmony background . Neil & his  wife Hope live in the Sterling Valley area

                

Paul Grondin                                       

Paul is originally from Manchester, CT. He is a 12 year student of the Earl Scruggs 3 finger style banjo picking method. Paul's first experience in a band was with Steve & his father's old tyme country band. Paul brings a solid 5 string banjo twang to Lake Effect Bluegrass".  Paul also does some lead and harmony singing with the group. Paul joined the band early summer of 2003.   Paul and his fiance Kathy live in Lysander.

 

             

Gary Shortslef                                    

Gary Shortslef has re-joined the band as our bass player.  Gary also plays in the Country/Rock band   "JD and the Nashville Ramblers" and keeps the steady beat for "Lake Effect Bluegrass". Gary and his wife Carol reside in Onondaga County.                          Gary is Neal's nephew
